Concrete Testing

WHY CONCERETE TESTING MATTERS

Structural Integrity Begins With Verified Concrete.

Concrete is the single most widely used construction material in Saudi Arabia - and also the most frequently non-compliant. Incorrect water-cement ratios, contaminated aggregates, early form stripping, and inadequate curing all produce concrete that fails to reach its design strength. The consequences range from costly rework to structural collapse.

HGL's concrete testing team operates both in-field - at the point of concrete placement - and in our ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory on cured specimens. We cover 14 standard test methods from slump and workability through compressive strength at 7 and 28 days, core drilling from hardened structures, rebound hammer assessment, and chemical analysis for chloride and sulfate contamination.

Every concrete test report issued by HGL is signed by a certified engineer and carries our SAAC accreditation reference - making it directly acceptable to ARAMCO QA/QC engineers, municipality inspection teams, and third-party project auditors.

Field Testing

At point of pour - slump, temp, air content, sampling

Lab Testing

7-day & 28-day compressive strength, chemical analysis

In-Situ Testing

Rebound hammer, core drilling from structures

Chemical Analysis

Chloride, sulfate, water absorption - BS 1881

TWO-PHASE TESTING PROGRAM

Field Phase + Laboratory Phase

HGL conducts concrete testing in two coordinated phases - immediate field testing at the pour location, and controlled laboratory analysis of cured specimens.

A

PHASE ONE

Field Testing - At Point of Pour

Our field technicians arrive at your project site during the concrete pour and conduct all required fresh-concrete tests immediately - before the mix is placed in formwork. This catches workability, air content, and temperature non-conformances in real time, before they become structural problems.

Slump Test

ASTM C143 - workability and water-cement ratio verification

Fresh Concrete Temperature

ASTM C1064 - critical in Saudi Arabia's extreme summer conditions

Air Content

ASTM C231 - voids verification for durability specification compliance

Unit Weight

ASTM C138 - fresh mix density verification

Specimen Making & Curing

ASTM C31 - cube and cylinder sampling for lab strength testing

B

PHASE TWO

Laboratory Testing - Cured Specimens

Field-sampled specimens are transported to our ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory for controlled curing and compressive strength testing at 7, 14, and 28-day intervals - delivering the compliance evidence required by ARAMCO, municipalities, and structural engineers.

Compressive Strength - Cylinders

ASTM C39 - 7-day and 28-day characteristic strength

Compressive Strength - Cubes

BS 1881: Part 116 - British Standard cube testing

Flexural Strength (Modulus of Rupture)

ASTM C78 - pavement and structural beam testing

Splitting Tensile Strength

ASTM C496 / BS 1881:117 - indirect tensile capacity

Water Absorption

BS 1881: Part 122 - durability and permeability index

IN-SITE STRUCTURAL TESTING

Testing Existing Concrete Structures

RH

Rebound Hammer (Schmidt Hammer)

Non-destructive hardness test applied to the surface of hardened concrete. Measures rebound number and correlates to indicative compressive strength. Rapid screening of large areas - ideal for existing structures, slabs, columns, and walls.

STANDARD

ASTM C805 / BS 1881-202

CD

Core Drilling & Compressive Testing

Diamond-core drill extracts cylindrical specimens from hardened concrete elements - slabs, beams, columns, and pavements. Cores are trimmed, capped, and tested under compression to determine actual in-place strength with high confidence. Definitive compliance evidence for dispute resolution and structural assessment.

STANDARD

ASTM C42 (Coring) + ASTM C39 (Compression)

CA

Chemical Analysis of Hardened Concrete

Laboratory chemical testing of hardened concrete specimens to quantify chloride ion content (corrosion risk to embedded reinforcement), sulfate content (risk of sulfate attack on cementite matrix), and water absorption (durability and porosity index). Essential for aggressive-environment structures in the Eastern Province.

STANDARDS

BS 1881: Part 122 (Absorption) · Part 124 (Chloride & Sulfate)
